Rosacea

Involving the central part of the face, such as the nose, chin, forehead, and cheeks, rosacea may begin with episodes of redness and burning and may progress to persistent redness, increased capillaries, skin acne, and edema. Rosacea is also commonly known as Rose Disease. The most common factors that cause rosacea are:
– Past predisposition,
–Certain bacteria and Demodex mites,
–Ultraviolet rays and environmental temperature changes,
–Mood changes and stress.

How is Rosacea Treated?

Although it is difficult to fully recover, it can be taken under control with treatment. The key is to avoid factors that worsen the symptoms.

–The application of sunscreen helps reduce the exacerbating impact of the sun as a triggering factor for the condition.
–Adherence to topical creams and systemic therapy is important.

–The symptoms can be controlled through laser treatment.

– It is particularly important to avoid foods and drinks that can exacerbate redness.

Rosacea is examination divided into stage 1 with burning and redness, stage 2 with prominent blood vessels on the face, and stage 3 with small red, inflamed acne accompanying the burning and redness. Stage 4 includes burning and tenderness of the eyes and swollen nose (rhinophyma). Eye involvement usually occurs in 1/3 of patients. Blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, photophobia, tearing, burning, periorbital edema, and blurred vision may accompany the condition.

What Factors Increase the Symptoms of Rosacea?

 

  • Hot and cold foods, spices, hot sauces, pickles, chocolate, alcohol;
  • Weather conditions (heat, cold and sun, humidity, wind);
  • Stress, excessive exercise;
  • Excessive heat, long baths, excessive contact with irritating skin care products, cologne, wet wipes;
  • Long-term use of cortisone creams on the face.
